Dakar Desert Rally Steam–Epic Crossplay Setup

By Dakar Rally Game editorial team. Sources and practical guidance; no hands-on benchmark claims.

Confirm that both players are on PC

Saber documents crossplay between the Steam and Epic Games Store PC versions of Dakar Desert Rally. Its official FAQ tells the Steam player to enable Epic Games Friends List under Options → Gameplay → User Profile and apply the change. This instruction concerns those two PC stores; it is not a promise of crossplay with PlayStation or Xbox.

Before arranging a race, ask each player to state the store and platform they are using. “I am on PC” is more useful than a controller brand, but the store still matters for this particular setup. Both players should launch their own installed copy and finish any pending update before testing an invitation.

Test a simple session first

Apply the documented friends-list setting on the Steam copy, then check whether the other player appears through the game's relevant social interface. Start with a straightforward session using content both players own. This removes downloadable-content differences from the first test and makes an invitation problem easier to describe.

Agree on who is hosting and which session the other player should join. If several attempts are happening at once, players can end up responding to an old invitation or looking for the wrong lobby. Make one invitation attempt, wait for its result and report the exact message before trying the opposite host arrangement.

If the invitation does not work

First check that both players completed the same update cycle and are signed into the intended store accounts. Reopen the relevant settings to confirm the change was applied. Then restart the game and repeat the simple session test. Keep a note of whether the failure occurs before the invitation appears, when joining, or after a race begins.

Those stages point to different questions. A missing friend entry is different from a session disconnect after loading. Do not start by deleting saves, reinstalling the operating system or changing router settings at random. A useful support report includes both stores, the error wording and the point at which the connection fails. No checklist can guarantee that an online service is available at the moment you try it.

Choose the right alternative for your session

If your plan is to share one screen, check the official FAQ: it lists neither split-screen nor local co-op for Dakar Desert Rally. Online store crossplay and couch multiplayer are different features.

For solo practice while you troubleshoot, use offline custom races. For the wider platform overview, return to Dakar Desert Rally. Confirming the intended type of multiplayer before setting up controllers or buying another copy prevents a feature mismatch from becoming a technical support problem.
