Braking on Gravel in Rally Games: Build a Repeatable Approach

Start with a braking reference you can find again
A repeatable braking point is more useful for practice than a vague instruction to brake later. Pick a visible feature before a corner: a sign, a change in surface color or another landmark that remains easy to recognize. Begin slowing earlier than you think necessary and aim to reach the corner under control.
The exact braking distance depends on the game, car, surface, speed and assistance settings. This guide therefore does not give a distance claimed to work everywhere. Use a familiar vehicle and a short section from your chosen rally game, then keep those conditions stable while learning the approach.
For an official stage-specific example, EA’s Rally Poland guide discusses looking ahead and using visible braking references. The exercise here applies that kind of deliberate observation without copying a fixed braking point.
Give the tires fewer jobs during the first exercise
For an initial practice run, do most of your slowing while the vehicle is pointed along the approach. Then begin turning at a speed that lets you follow the intended line. More advanced techniques can come later; combining hard braking and a large steering input immediately makes it difficult to identify why the corner went wrong.
If you overshoot, move the reference earlier on the next attempt. If the car slows comfortably and you coast a long distance before turning, try a slightly later reference. Make small changes rather than swinging between maximum caution and a last-second stop. Keep your eyes on the route beyond the braking point once you have used it.
Compare entry, middle and exit separately
After each run, identify where time or control was lost. Entering quickly is not useful if it forces a slow correction halfway through the corner. A calmer entry may leave the car better placed for acceleration at the exit. Judge the whole sequence instead of treating the latest possible braking moment as the only objective.
If the front keeps running wide, compare a lower entry speed before adding more steering. If the rear becomes unstable, smooth the transition between braking and turning. Adapt when the reference stops being reliable
A marker that is clear in one view may be hidden by dust, traffic or a different camera. Have a second reference where possible, and reduce speed when visibility makes your usual approach uncertain. Practice should improve judgment, not make you dependent on one perfectly visible object.
Finish the session with three controlled runs from the same reference. Only then try another car or a higher pace. If steering commands feel too abrupt, use keyboard rally control tips before moving the braking point again. A repeatable entry gives every later handling adjustment a clearer meaning.
